Can I put methylated spirits in my Zippo lighter?
Many smokers are looking to recharge their Zippo lighter without petrol. Whether it's to save money or simply because they don't have petrol for Zippo, many users of the famous American lighter want an alternative to Zippo petrol.
So the answer is, is it possible to replace Zippo gasoline with methylated spirits or F-gasoline?
The answer is yes, BUT: You can run your Zippo on methylated spirits, F-gasoline or any other fuel. However, this is strongly discouraged. Nothing works better than real Zippo fuel designed for this purpose. If you use an alternative product, you risk not only giving off a persistent and unbearable smell, but also damaging the mechanism of your lighter.

How to change the wick of your Zippo?
When you buy a Zippo, the wick included is white. As the wick is used, it becomes blackened by the accumulation of carbon. It must then be cut. The wick must be handled with care, as it is fragile. You must therefore act gently, using tweezers. Grab the wick and pull it out until a clean piece of wick appears. Then cut off the used part.
Measuring about ten centimetres, 2 to 3 cuts will be necessary before replacing it. When it is no longer possible to cut, you must then change the wick of your Zippo to add a new one, and so on.
