Meaning of the OCB brand

The Odet is a river of Finistère which passes through Quimper and flows into the Atlantic at Bénodet. In 1822, one of the first factories was created not far from the source of the Odet.

Cascadec in Scaer is the name of the place where one of the factories is located. The latter is now part of the Glatfelter Group and is called Papeteries de Cascadec.

Bolloré is the name of the creator of this company. It is his grandson, Vincent Bolloré, who reactivated production in Brittany.

History of the brand OCB

1822

In 1822, Monsieur Bolloré set up the first paper mill on the banks of the Odet, a river in Finistère which passes through Quimper and flows into the Atlantic at Bénodet. The second paper mill was set up at the Cascadet mill in 1893.

1917

The cigarette well introduced in France and the world and given the success of rolling paper, Vincent Bolloré decided to bet everything on this niche. Stationery, cotton, muslin ... are thus relegated to the background.

1918

La fabrication de papiers ultra-minces pour rouler les cigarettes donne naissance à la marque OCB. OCB signification : acronyme de “Odet-Cascadec-Bolloré” comme il est dit plus haut dans l’article. Marque déposée en 1923 à l’INPI.

1987

Vincent Bolloré buys a competitor, JOB (also specialising in rolling papers) in Perpignan and thus creates Bolloré Technologies.

1999

Launch of the OCB Premium range. This range is a hit thanks to its ultra-thin and transparent paper. The OCB slim sheet is the best-selling rolling paper Booklet.

2000

In 2000, he sold 81% of the company to his main American client Don Levin, who renamed the company Republic Technologies. The manufacture of OCB notebooks still takes place at the Perpignan factory in the Pyrénées Orientales in Languedoc-Roussillon and has developed strongly since then.

Virgin paper: the brown unbleached paper

Extra-fine, unbleached and naturally brown, the fibres of OCB virgin paper are GMO-free and harvested in an eco-responsible way. The notebook packaging is also produced with vegetable-based inks and recycled cardboard.

OCB with organic hemp, grown in France

The organic hemp used in the OCB notebooks is made and harvested in France and more precisely in the Aube region.
Its cultivation requires very little water. Within the framework of this organic production, pesticides and insecticides are strictly forbidden.

OCB works hand in hand with farmers and scientists in order to develop and offer the consumer the most environmentally friendly rolling paper possible.

Hemp fibres have always been known for their strong resistance while conferring an extreme fineness to paper.

Just like the Virgin Paper range, Ocb organic hemp rolling paper, tubes and filters are guaranteed free of GMOs and additives, chlorine-free and gummed with natural acacia gum.

In addition to its rolling sheets, OCB has developed a range of cigarette tubes and cardboard and foam filters: here again, the quality of manufacture is rigorously applied and one finds all the pleasure of smoking an article of the French brand.
