How to calibrate a precision electronic balance?

Calibration, also called calibration, is the act of setting an instrument to give the correct data. This generally applies to measuring instruments, especially precision balances.

An electronic scale is a precision instrument. With normal use, the scale will provide years of reliable service. However, over time, the weight on the scale may become less accurate or even inaccurate due to wear and tear or temperature variations, for example. Consider testing the accuracy of the data by placing calibration weights on the scale (on a stable surface). If the weight indicated by the scale does not correspond to the calibration weight you have used, it is time to calibrate your scale!

How to calibrate a precision balance?

1 - Place the switched off scale on a flat, stable surface.

2 - Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the scale.

3 - Simultaneously press the MODE and CAL buttons until numbers appear.

4 - Release and place a suitable weight on your scale. Wait 3 seconds and press the tare button.

5 - Press the ON/OFF button again to turn off the scale.

6 - Calibration is finished, you can remove the weight.

Note that the method may vary depending on the type and model of scale. Remember to read the product data sheet and operating instructions carefully.

How to calibrate the MyWeigh T2 0.01g x 400g digital scale?

We will take as an example a Myweigh T2 digital scale 0.01g x 400g. Calibration will enable you to achieve high accuracy when using your scale.

First of all, please note that the precision balance has been calibrated at the factory and must not be calibrated by the user except in the event of a malfunction!

1 - Get two 100g weights.
2 - Place the scale on a flat and stable surface, make sure it is switched off.
3 - Press the On key, the screen will display '0.00'
3 - Hold down the 'UNIT' key for 5 seconds, the screen will display '2ERO' then the required calibration weight (200g).
4 - Carefully place the 200g calibration weight on the weighing pan and wait 3 seconds. The screen will display the next calibration weight (400g).
5 - Add another 200g calibration weight to the platter to reach the required 400g and wait 3 seconds. The screen will display 'CEL', 'PASS'.
6 - Calibration is complete, remove the calibration weight and switch off the scale.

Note: If the calibration does not give you a good result, repeat the procedure more slowly.

How to calibrate the JScale 115g x 0.01g?

1 - Get a 100g weight.
2 - Place the switched-off scale on a flat, stable surface.
3 - Hold down the 'On' and 'M' keys. Release the keys when the screen displays a series of numbers
4 - Press the 'On' key again, the screen will display 'CAL' and the required calibration weight.
5 - Place the required weight on the tray and press the 'On' key. The display will show 'PASS'.
6 - Calibration is complete, remove the calibration weight.

Tips on using an electronic precision balance

If you notice a fault with your precision scale, read on:

  • The balance is a precision instrument that must be protected from shocks and used on a flat and stable surface.
  • If the scale is inaccurate, stuck, or displays OUT2, you must recalibrate the scale.
  • Do not overload the scale beyond its maximum capacity, even with an additional container.
  • Allow sufficient time for the scale to stabilize as soon as it is turned on.
  • Do not leave exposed to extreme temperatures for too long.
  • Avoid leaving objects weighed unnecessarily on the weighing pan.
  • If the display shows LLLLL, or EEEEE the scale has been shocked or damaged, attempt calibration and if the failure persists, use the warranty.
  • If the display shows 8888, change the batteries.
  • HHHHH indicates an overload that could seriously damage the scale.
