Cigarette filters - All about it

Cigarette filter, which one to choose?

The cigarette filters help you roll your cigarettes, prevent you from inhaling tobacco particles and, above all, retain the most dangerous substances contained in cigarette smoke. Until now, all smokers have been aware of this, but do you really know everything about cigarette filters? Do you know which one is best for you? Here's a quick overview of all the types of cigarette filters that could upset your preconceived ideas or buying habits.

Foam or stick cigarette filters

Foam cigarette filter

By far the most common. These cigarette filters are often made of cellulose acetate. This is the material that retains the harmful substances in cigarette smoke such as tar and nicotine. Charcoal has sometimes been added as a filter in some models to increase their effectiveness. You'll find it on the Gizeh Charcoal filters. A quick look at your stick filters after use will show you how effective they are: they will be yellowed by toxic deposits.
Smoked without filters, unlike industrial cigarettes which already contain them, rolled cigarettes often contain 4 times more hazardous substances. This information should convince all those who do not yet use a cigarette filter to do so.

In addition, different formats are available to roll your cigarettes the way you like them:

  • Regular 8 mm foam filters for classic 8 mm diameter rolls
  • Slim foam filters for 6 mm diameter cigarettes : The most famous: OCB slim filters.
  • Ultra slim foam filters for 5 mm diameter cigarettes

With mentholated or classic filters, with carbon or with a scratchy texture, you will be able to vary the experiences. You even have a choice of packaging: loose in a bag or in a stick in a cardboard box that looks like a pack of cigarettes.

Biodegradable or ecological cigarette filters

Biodegradable cigarette filter

These are the latest in filters. The Smoking Brown, OCB Bio or Raw filters are unbleached models, and therefore without chlorine treatment. They are also biodegradable. They will only take 28 days to decompose in nature and no longer 12 years like classic cigarette butts. However, these natural filters are just as effective in filtering hazardous substances, whether they are made of organic hemp, unbleached paper or untreated cotton. The difference lies in their appearance. They are often less white, less regular.

Cardboard cigarette filters

They have many names: toncar, tip and others. All designed to facilitate the rolling of your cigarettes, no matter how you roll in S, O, W or M. The advantage over foam filters? They are more convenient to put in your pocket. You can find them in different formats:

  • Classic, often 6 cm by 1.8 or 2 cm wide
  • King size (larger), 6 x 2.5 cm
  • Conical for rolling conical and often larger cigarettes, 9 x 2.7 cm

Some filter tips are perforated for easy folding, others are not. You will be able to select them according to your preferences. And if you are concerned about the environment, you can also choose natural unbleached cardboard, such as Smoking Brown or Raw Gummed tips.

Denicotea: The plastic cigarette filter against tar

Cigarette holder

They're not just meant to look good. Cigarette smokers are also willing to reduce the impact of harmful substances contained in cigarettes. By keeping the smoke away from the face, they would prevent certain harm to the skin, such as premature aging, cold tobacco odours on hands and hair, and yellowing of teeth. Denicotea cigarette holders are available in various lengths from 7.5 to 10 cm. The brand's patented silica gel-based filter reduces the amount of toxic products ingested in the smoke by at least a third, without changing the taste. The gel absorbs nicotine and tar. Your filter will need to be changed after about ten cigarettes.

The reusable cigarette filter

Plastic cigarette filter

They are often overlooked, yet they are very popular with smokers who have tried them, and for several reasons. They reduce the amount of tobacco and nicotine inhaled by 60%, simply by placing them on the filter side of your cigarettes. The operation is quick and easy. Plastic cigarette filters are designed to reduce the risk of disease caused by smoke and limit the effects of smoking on teeth.
According to David Ross filter users, the effects are quickly felt. They find it easier to breathe. Another advantage is that it can help people stop smoking. Consumers have indeed noticed a dissuasive effect caused by this transparent plastic filter to be placed on cigarettes. After 5 to 8 cigarettes, it becomes clogged and changes colour due to the deposits formed by the harmful substances. For some, this can be a real wake-up call. And if it is not yet effective, it can also reduce your nicotine dependency (a bit like the electronic cigarette). The plastic filter reduces the amount of nicotine inhaled (and also the tar) compared to a conventional cigarette.
Few smokers are aware of this and yet these filters are really useful. You just have to choose them according to your needs and concerns and there is a wide choice! To stop smoking, to help roll your cigarettes, to reduce the risks to your health or to respect the environment.
