What is a Kaloud?

Increasingly popular with hookah smokers, the Kaloud is a Heat Management Device for Hookah that is simple to use but extremely clever. Intense heat, ease of use and a big smoke are the qualities that stand out the most when talking about this little accessory. Designed in the United States by the brand Kaloud Lotus, this device consists of two parts: a holder into which you insert your charcoal and a rotating lid with a handle. The latter allows you to adjust the flow of incoming air, thus ensuring perfect combustion of the natural coal cubes.

Unlike the Brohood system, it is designed to replace aluminium foil and is placed directly on your Bowl filled with tobacco. No foil with a Kaloud!

Which Kaloud to choose?

Kaloud is a generalized term that actually refers to the first Heat Management Device released on the market. It is the American brand Kaloud Lotus which released the Kaloud Lotus 1, Kaloud Lotus 2, The One Plus or more recently the Kaloud Noir. Since its release, many brands such as Amy Deluxe, Skull or Tsar have been inspired to create their own Heat Management Device. Real Kaloud or Heat Management Device similar all have the same working principle as explained above. Differences can be observed in the materials used, the design and consequently in the price. Depending on your wishes and your budget, you can either go for the original product or for a Heat Management Device Hookah with a lid like the Skull Power or the Tsar Booster. | Find a compatible Bowl

There are many Bowls for Kaloud. All brands of hookah have at least one compatible Bowl in their product range. Among the most famous are the famous Bowl Cascada, the Bowl Ferris by Hookah John or the Ramses Isis V2. You will find them in all styles and materials. Very often made of clay, they are now available in many different materials. For example, you can use your Kaloud with Bowl in glass like the Bowl DUM. Can you put self-igniting charcoal in a kalud?

NEVER use self-igniting charcoal (Three Kings type) in a Heat Management Device ! Any Heat Management Device "Kaloud type" (Tsar Booster or Oduman Ignis) should only be used with natural coal. Some brands have even developed a special type of charcoal especially for this type of device, such as the famous FRESH COCO with itstriangle-shaped charcoal. You can also choose the King Coco charcoal or the 26 mm cubes from the Black Coco brand.

How to light the coal for Kaloud?

When using this type of Heat Management Device, it is imperative to use natural Hookah charcoal. This charcoal, which is mainly made of coconut husk, is more difficult to light than a self-igniting charcoal because of its natural composition. You will not be able to light kaludo charcoal without a plate, with a simple lighter. You will need a Coal heater (electric or gas) to light your natural kalud charcoal.

Kaloud: Open or closed?

This is the most common question asked by beginner smokers with the Heat Management Device kaloud. Should the lid be left on during the session or not? Then the answer is YES, but mainly at the beginning of the session. After you have placed your natural charcoal cubes, they must raise the temperature of your tobacco. It is therefore essential to leave the lid on so that enough heat can build up. After a few minutes you can remove the cover.

| How to clean your Heat Management Device ?

How do you clean your Kaloud without fear of damaging it? We can only advise you to do as little as possible! Even though the majority of Kaloud heating systems are made of resistant stainless steel, certain cleaning products can be corrosive and cause serious damage to the material. Cleaning with water and a soft sponge and careful drying are sufficient.

One last tip to keep your Heat Management Device as long as possible: NEVER preheat your kaloud. This will not add anything to your preparation and may also damage your Heat Management Device.

Kaloud or Brohood?

It is almost impossible to answer this question as these heating systems are so different! Apart from regulating the heating of the charcoal at Hookah, these two devices have a different working principle, are not used with the same Bowl and do not offer the same feeling during the session.
